Evaluation Activity 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings)

In my film I have used interesting angles to intrigue the target audience, for example in the forth screen shot I have used a camera angle which makes the audience feel like they are in the hole that the character is digging, this creates a mysterious atmosphere and creates an illusion. I also use camera angles which are in the point of view of the character eg. in screen shot 3 it is in the point of view of the murderer writing down his victims names.

I have edited the film so that at some points there is more than one clip being shown at once, like in screen shot 1. This makes the clips interesting and also gives different views of the character at one time. Throughout my opening there is not a clear view of the murderers  face, I edited the footage like this so that there is a sense of mystery to the character and would create tension. In my opening there are various clips of the murderer digging a hole and preparing for the murder, there is then one short clip of the victim, I thought that this would create tension and would make the audience intrigued and want to see more.

I located my film in an old granite house which is over 400 years old, which I thought looked creepy and mysterious therefore would suit my thriller film. I have also located part of my film in a field, this was to show the murderer creating a hole for the body. The location that I chose helps to convey the genre of my film and helps set the mood and atmosphere. The murderer In my film is wearing a big coat, in films that I have researched the murderers are often wearing big coats which makes the character seem mysterious.  I chose the title 'The Purpose' as it is a similar title to other thriller films that I had researched, I find that my title creates a sense of mystery and would make the audience be intrigued to watch my film.

Evaluation activity 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

- Murderer from perfume

Murderer from my opening sequence  -

The character from Perfume murders many women in the film which is a similarity with my character in my opening sequence. The similarities between these two characters are that they are both mysterious, they look similar and are of similar ages. The film 'Perfume' is about this man capturing and murdering girls for their scent, in my film my murderer stalks, captures and kills women which is another similarity between the two characters however the murders are for different reasons.

Evaluation Activity 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A production company may be responsible for fundraising and will handle budgeting, scheduling, scripting, the supply of resources, the organisation of staff, the production itself, distribution and marketing. A production company such as Paramount would suit my film as it is a thriller. Paramount has been very successful. Some of the most well known production companies are  Paramount, universal studios, Dream works and 20th century Fox. If I was to choose a production company for my film I would choose a well known and experienced company in order for my film to be more successful.

When making my production company logo I researched different companies and went on Video Copilot which helped me create my own logo. I created my productions on After Effects and  followed the steps from Video Copilot. At the bottom is my production company Logo.

Evaluation Activity 4 !

Who would be the audience for your media product?

This is Leo, he is 18 which is the age of my target audience. He likes to watch horrors, thrillers and comedies but does not like romantic comedies. He mostly likes listening to music in the charts and also likes to watch TV drama's. He shops for clothes in shops such as Topman, hollister and abercrombie and fitch.

Leo would watch my movie as it is the type of genre that he likes which is a thriller. I did a survey on surveymonkey in order to find out peoples favourite genre of films. Mostly boys said that they like Thriller, action and Horror films whereas most girls said romantic comedies. However the most common favourite Genre was Thriller, therfore I decided to do one.

I asked people from my Target audience to tell me what conventions they would expect  to see in a thriller film, most of them said that they would expect a chase or a mystery within the story. I think that my film includes these conventions as it leaves the audience wanting to see more therefore I think that he would watch my film.

Evaluation Activity 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience by having an interesting storyline and by using conventions that are normally in a thriller film such as a murder, I also created a sense of mystery by hiding the murderers face throughout out my opening sequence, this intrigued the audience into wanting to see more.

I also attracted my audience by using appropriate and interesting locations for my opening sequence, such as an old house that is over 400 years old, an old shed and a field. By adding interesting sound effects also attracted my audience as it created intense atmosphere's and mood's.
