Evaluation Activity 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings)

In my film I have used interesting angles to intrigue the target audience, for example in the forth screen shot I have used a camera angle which makes the audience feel like they are in the hole that the character is digging, this creates a mysterious atmosphere and creates an illusion. I also use camera angles which are in the point of view of the character eg. in screen shot 3 it is in the point of view of the murderer writing down his victims names.

I have edited the film so that at some points there is more than one clip being shown at once, like in screen shot 1. This makes the clips interesting and also gives different views of the character at one time. Throughout my opening there is not a clear view of the murderers  face, I edited the footage like this so that there is a sense of mystery to the character and would create tension. In my opening there are various clips of the murderer digging a hole and preparing for the murder, there is then one short clip of the victim, I thought that this would create tension and would make the audience intrigued and want to see more.

I located my film in an old granite house which is over 400 years old, which I thought looked creepy and mysterious therefore would suit my thriller film. I have also located part of my film in a field, this was to show the murderer creating a hole for the body. The location that I chose helps to convey the genre of my film and helps set the mood and atmosphere. The murderer In my film is wearing a big coat, in films that I have researched the murderers are often wearing big coats which makes the character seem mysterious.  I chose the title 'The Purpose' as it is a similar title to other thriller films that I had researched, I find that my title creates a sense of mystery and would make the audience be intrigued to watch my film.
